War in Ukraine

Thousands of refugees arrived to Transcarpathia from the eastern parts of Ukraine to flee bombing after the outbreak of the war. Transcarpathia is the western part of Ukraine, safe and has not yet been attacked by Russia. The richer refugees rented hotel rooms, but not everyone could afford this. They were accommodated in refugee shelters in school gymnasiums. People are walking in the downtown, here you don't realise that there is a war on, but the cemetery which is located a few minutes' walk away, shows a different story. Funerals held here in every week for local soldiers who died in the war against Russia.

24 February 2022. Refugees are arriving from Ukraine to Hungary at the Beregsurány border crossing point after the outbreak of war.

25 February 2022. An armoured vehicle of the Hungarian Defence Forces drives in Vásárosnamény. In the days following the outbreak of the war, military units were deployed to the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, and a military convoy consisting of three BTR armoured personnel carriers crossed the border town of Vásárosnamény, causing panic among the local residents.

18 March 2022. Three defenders of Ukraine were buried in Uzhhorod, on the Hill of Fame. Many residents, leaders, soldiers law enforcement officers of Uzhhorod and its region came to say farewell to Sergeant Major Mykola Chyzh, Sergeant Ihor Myronenko, Ensign Myroslav Duryk, who lost their lives in the war.
